I think I got really excited about the concept and built a story in my mind, and the book just did not match what I had envisioned. So… This book is not really what I expected it to be. But while waiting to ride the Eye ferris wheel, Jem is terrified to see that all the other tourists in line flash the same number. Until she meets Spider, another outsider, and takes a chance. Burdened with such awful awareness, Jem avoids relationships. That number is a date: the date they will die.
